What is the Service Evaluation Study?

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which runs the Metro and many local bus routes, is examining several Metrobus routes to recommend changes to address the strategic needs and problems identified for the following routes:

  • Washington Boulevard Line 2A, 2B, 2C, 2G
  • Sibley Hospital – Stadium Armory Line D1, D3, D6
  • Glover Park – Dupont Circle Line D2
  • Ivy city – Union Station Line D4
  • MacArthur Blvd – Georgetown Line D5
  • Hospital Center Line D8
  • Prince George’s – Langley Park Line F8
  • Eastover – Addison Road Line P12
 Study Goals

The WMATA Service Evaluation Study will result in recommendations for improved service and more efficient bus operations. The initial focus of the study is to identify current deficiencies in the operation of the above-listed lines. Information from the public and from bus drivers and planners will be used to examine ridership, frequency, travel time, reliability, and other quality-of-service indicators for each line.

Possible recommendations include adding buses to decrease wait times, changing the route or stop locations, running skip-stop express services, and adding shelters or other improvements to existing stops.

Upon completion of the study, WMATA will determine when and how to implement the recommendations based on community needs, available resources and other factors.
